Troop 557 - Backpacking Equipment List. Please print this checklist for your packing.

 

Ten Essentials - please bring to all outdoor activities

Compass and map of area
Extra Clothes, adjust to weather conditions
(BB) Extra food for an emergency only
Small flashlight with fresh batteries
(BB) Fire starter and matches

 

Clothing - adjust to weather conditions as needed

 

Socks – light inner / heavy outer – two sets
Boots – well broken in and proper fit
Long pants (or shorts with long polys)
Gloves or mittens and stocking cap
Underwear – two pair

 

Additional personal equipment items

 

Pack and pack cover – trash bag OK for cover
Sleeping bag – line bag cover with trash bag
Sleeping pad – foam or air
Zip-lock bags to keep gear and food dry
Moleskin, foot care supplies

 

Patrol Equipment - divide this among patrol members

 

Tent and ground cloth – 1 per 2 people
Backpacking stove and fuel
Cook pots – large pot, small pot, fry pan
Cutlery, spoons, tongs
Camp shovel or trowel for latrine use
Large plastic garbage bags
Water filter or purification chemicals

 

Additional nice-to-haves - but keep total pack weight close to 1/4 body weight

Watch
(BB) Camera and film
Swimsuit
Trekking poles

 

(BB) - Bear bag items, pack separately

(BB) Personal first aid kit
(BB) Sun protection – glasses, lotion, etc
Pocket knife – small folding type (toten Chip required)
Rain gear – poncho, rainsuit, or trash bag
(BB) Water bottles – 2 quarts minimum

 

 

 

Windbreaker, coat, or parka
Shirts, long or short sleeves
Hat with brim for sun and rain protection
Wool or polypro sweater
(BB) Bandanna and small towel

 

 


Extra flashlight batteries and bulb for long trip
Cup, bowl, and spoon
Personal care items, toilet paper, toothbrush
Long underwear or other sleep clothes
Light shoes or sandals for in-camp wear

 

 

 

Burlap bags for hanging smellables (BB)
100’ of ¼” nylon rope to hang bear bags (BB)
Repair kit – clevis pins, needle & floss, etc
Patrol first aid kit – including Rx medications
Rain fly with poles, rope, and tent pins
(BB) Dish soap, towel, soap-free scrub pad
